From the Field to the Microscope: A Geological Analysis of the Rocks at Carrosio The Carrosio area is characterised by a complex geological profile, dominated mainly by metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. This video explains in detail the scientific methods used by geologists to study the evolutionary history of our landscape. The Fossil Evidence from Carrosio: Traces of an Ancient Deep Sea Whilst walking through the hills of the Carrosio area, one may come across numerous fossils that bear witness to a fascinating geological past. These finds provide exceptional clues for reconstructing the area’s ancient natural environment. The fossils found within the municipal area serve as perfect indicators of the complex marine history of this region. Opening of the new Centre for Studies and Documentation on the Geosite, the Apennines and Biodiversity Can you read the history of the world in a rock face? In Carrosio, you can. Yesterday we opened the new Centre for Studies and Documentation on the Geosite, the Apennines and Biodiversity, a starting point for discovering why our hills are famous amongst geologists from all over the world. Carrosio’s “Golden Nail”: A Global Geological Standard The history of the Earth spans 5 billion years, which geologists divide into increasingly shorter and more precise time intervals based on the amount of geological information available. To define these intervals unambiguously, the International Commission on Stratigraphy establishes global standards, selecting the most representative rock outcrops worldwide. In this video, we discover the exceptional geological importance of our region. Sand dollars and ancient clams: the secrets of the seabed at Carrosio! As we continue our journey through the hills of Carrosio, we discover how every single fossil is a precious piece of the puzzle in reconstructing the identity of our ancient sea! In the new video, we examine the finds hidden throughout the area and discover the fascinating lifestyles of these prehistoric organisms. The Fossil Corals of Carrosio: Traces of an Ancient Coastal Sea The Carrosio area contains extraordinary fossil remains that enable researchers to reconstruct the area’s ancient environmental dynamics. Thanks to valuable information provided by local residents, it has been possible to identify and study sites of great palaeontological significance at close quarters. Analysis of these finds has led to discoveries of fundamental importance for the local geological history. The 1926 strike at the Carrosio Jute Mill: An Episode in Trade Union History The Carrosio area was the scene of a significant historical and trade union event in 1926. The protest took place inside the local jute factory, which employed around 900 workers, mostly women. The workers organised the industrial action to put forward specific economic demands, rather than for political or ideological reasons.
